One out of every five adolescents in the world lives in India. It is imperative that they are encouraged to take an active part in their own mental, emotional, and physical development, along with advancing their own ability to become community leaders. The community development recommended by Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) evaluates the Jharkhand Initiative for Adolescent Health (JIAH), a community intervention aligned with RKSK and designed to improve school attendance, dietary diversity, and mental health among adolescent girls aged 10-19 years in rural Jharkhand, eastern India. However, so far, it has never been evaluated. The JIAH intervention is appraised through a parallel-group, two-arm, superiority, cluster-randomized controlled trial. The trial is currently ongoing and the results will be collated and published in 2020. These findings can inform the implementation of RKSK and will contribute to the evidence base for community interventions to improve adolescent health and development in other areas.
