Tuberculosis in the COVID-19 Era : India Experience

21 Oct 2021
Tuberculosis

by V K Jain et al 20 MIN READ

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be an endemic in several parts of the world, including India and needs surveillance, clinical assessment, testing, contact tracing, confirmation of diagnosis with supervised or in-supervised treatment regimens for an effective eradication. This study assesses the challenges in TB management in the wake of the COVID- 19 pandemic and the current strategies adopted to mitigate them. The study found considerable disruptions in TB service provisions both in primary care and hospital settings. Lockdown, social distancing, isolation strategies and public health guidelines to prevent viral transmission impacted the delivery of all aspects of TB care. TB management now requires reconfiguration of methods to support patients including wider use of remote consultations. It is a useful study for program implementers.  Click here to read the study.
