It has been 50 years since UNFPA began its operations in the field of women empowerment. This report focuses on the need for combined action of various stakeholders - civil society, governments, development institutions, and UNFPA - to empower women and girls so that they can make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. It traces the history of women fighting for their rights through various initiatives since 1969. Further, the 6 case studies that trace the journeys of 6 women across the globe, highlight how these women paved their own paths of empowerment and carved out a niche for themselves in the world.
