PLHIVs and COVID-19

06 Aug 2021
HIV/AIDS

by UNAIDS 15 MIN READ

From data on clinical outcomes it appears that people living with HIV (PLHIV) are at an increased risk of more severe outcomes from COVID-19 compared with other people. This brochure emphasizes the need for PLHIVs to be vaccinated against COVID-19, regardless of their CD4 or viral load, because the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Importantly, when administering vaccines to PLHIVs, confidentiality about their underlying condition should be preserved. The brochure provides tips for PLHIVs to protect themselves from the Coronavirus infection as well as from the stigma attached to both the diseases. It can be used by frontline workers working with PLHIVs. Click here to access the brochure.
