Nutritional Status of Adolescent Girls in Tribal India

24 Jun 2021

Undernutrition amongst adolescents is an area of concern in India. This study assesses the nutritional status of adolescent girls and the hygiene practices and awareness regarding adolescent programs. The results are based on a community based cross sectional study of 240 unmarried girls in representative blocks in Palghar, Maharashtra.  The study indicates very poor nutritional status amongst certain section of adolescent girls even though various nutritional programs are being implemented by Government of India. It suggests that interventions to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition and anemia in this age group is the need of the hour. This study can provide useful insights for program implementers.
