Nutrition Support and TB Care

Inadequate nutritional intake predisposes individuals to TB, and can impede treatment efficacy. The USAID-initiated Tuberculosis Health Action and Learning Initiative (THALI), in collaboration with RNTCP (Revised National TB Control Program) and 16 local NGOs, extended nutritional support to almost 200 TB patients for a period of 18 months in select districts of Kolkata. The support included conducting a nutritional assessments of TB patients and providing them with monthly food baskets. This document summarises the process and the positive results achieved through the nutritional support in treatment adherance and recovery of TB patients through the nutritional support. This document can provide information for implementers of TB prevention and treatment programs.
