USAID works with community-based organizations, marginalized populations, and tribal communities to drive demand for equitable, comprehensive healthcare services. USAID's Policy on Promoting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (PRO-IP) aims to improve the measurable impact and sustainability of its programs by ensuring active collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, empowering them to promote their rights and priorities. On August 23, 2023, USAID/India partnered with the Piramal Foundation, who supports USAIDs work on TB in tribal populations, to bring together 40 tribal leaders and solicit indigenous knowledge on health and community-building. The event covered climate concerns, knowledge retention, and intersectional approaches to fair health and wellbeing. USAID Mission Director Veena Reddy met with tribal leaders to understand how USAID can more effectively partner with tribal communities. The outcomes of this conversation will guide the formulation of USAID, Government of India, and partner policies. This document highlights key insights from the consultation with the tribal leaders.
