India’s RMNCH+A Strategy has marked a historical milestone in the country’s healthcare planning. The strategy succeeded in establishing an institutional framework and a mechanism of facility-level, need-based planning through concerted and coordinated efforts. A recent review of data suggested that 48 of the 184 High Priority Districts have improved and hence are no longer included in the list of these districts. This study outlines the learnings from the implementation of this strategy and highlights that gaps still exist in design and subsequent implementation of such program. These aspects make it difficult to gauge the impact of the strategy thereby limiting translation of learnings into long-term policy and planning. This study emphasizes the need to identify the weaknesses, opportunities and learnings gained from this strategy through assessments and data reviews in the coming years to guide future programmes better. It can provide useful insights to policy makers. Click here to read more.
