Child malnutrition places a significant disease burden on India and is one of the leading risk factors for death of children under the age of five. Of the partial data released for 22 states and Union Territories (UT), childhood stunting saw an increase in 13 states, wasting in 12 states and underweight in 16 states (NFHS-5, 2020).This policy brief highlights that the post pandemic situation is worse due to disruptions in delivery of nutrition and health services, reduction in food security and dietary quality and increase in food prices. It also highlights the existing challenges and the policy measures required to address these challenges in each of these areas. it is a useful document for policy makers.
