Full immunization coverage is lowest amongst India's tribal populations (56%) as compared to the national average of 62% . Understanding the bottlenecks and addressing the inequities to bridge the gaps is one of UNICEF's mandates. This Needs Assessment Study conducted in seven tribal dominant States of India unwraps realities and paves the way for state specific action plans to address inequities for the tribal immunization. This document highlights the socio-cultural perspective, the gaps identified and strategies to improve the immunization coverage among tribal population in the country. It provides insights for policy makers and those devising evidence-based strategies to increase immunization coverage and improve the health of children and pregnant women in the tribal areas of the country.
