Full Immunization Coverage is lowest among the Tribal Population (56%) as compared to the national average of (62%) in India. Understanding the bottlenecks and addressing the inequities to bridge the gaps is one of the mandates of UNICEF. A Needs Assessment Study conducted in seven tribal dominant States of India unwraps realities and paves the way for state specific action plans to address inequities for the tribal immunization. It also highlights the socio-cultural perspective, gaps identified and strategies to improve the immunization coverage among tribal population in the country. It is intended to provide insights for devising evidence-based strategies to increase immunization coverage and improve the health of children and pregnant women in the tribal areas of the country.
