There is a significant and strong positive association between the density of health workers and health outcomes. Despite existing policies to support the education and training of skilled healthcare workers in India, evidence suggests that there is an acute shortage of health personnel in some regions particularly the rural ones which remain under-served. This report presents a situation analysis of the size, composition, and distribution of human resources in healthcare while also exploring the relationship between educational development and the availability of healthcare workers. The report can support the design of capacity building programs for health workers as well as support state planning of workforce division.
