How can the distribution and retention of healthcare workers in India, especially in rural areas, be improved? According to this research, based on a review of the latest information available through government documents, websites, and other studies, there is an urgent need for stronger political commitment, collaboration with the private sector, along with better regulation and enforcement of standards in medical education. This will help augment the number of available and trained health workforce. These findings can be used to improve designs for educating the health workforce, and for introducing relevant policies and regulations to support recruitment and retention.
