Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development

26 Jun 2020

Mental health largely remains neglected, despite being recognized as a public health priority to achieve the SDGs. This commission traces the history of mental health issues and outlines the challenges, strategies, and metrics at a population level, based on each country’s status and availability of financial and human resources. It particularly highlights the impact of lack of access to mental health services on maternal and child health. It focuses on the needs of people affected by mental disorders, calling for actions to reduce the treatment gap. The recommendations in this document can be implemented by policymakers to enable a systemic change toward mental health, as well as organizations working on mental health, specifically with mothers and children.
