Enhancing Omicron Readiness in South East Asia

10 Dec 2021

In November 2021, WHO announced the Omicron variant of COVID-19 as a variant of concern. This variant has a large number of mutations, some of which are a cause for concern.  Omicron may be associated with higher transmissibility and immune escape potential. However, there are still considerable uncertainties. This technical brief makes a risk assessment for countries in the South East Asia Region, outlines four scenarios to be considered for guiding the planning and enhancing readiness for potential spread of the new variant in these countries and recommends priority actions they could undertake.  This is a useful brief for policy makers.  Click here to read the briefing document.
