Enabling TB Patients with Digital Adherence Technology

29 Nov 2020

Digital Adherence Technologies (DATs) are feature phone-based and smartphone-based technologies to monitor Tuberculosis (TB) medication adherence. Various DATs include:

  1. 99DOTS - a mobile call-based monitoring system
  2. Medication Event Reminder Monitor (MERM) - a visual and audio alarm-enabled digital pillbox
  3. VideoDOTS (VOT) - a mobile video-based reporting system

In 2019, the Central TB Division of India launched the Integrated Digital Adherence Technology Initiative (IDAT), the first initiative to introduce all the above three digital technologies into TB health systems. This study represents results from a mixed-methods study to assess the implementation of IDAT in eight districts across the three Indian states of Gujarat, Karnataka, and Haryana. The results and data in the study can help service providers deploy and improve IDAT services in the country.
