Early Estimates of Bivalent mRNA Vaccine Effectiveness in Preventing COVID-19–Associated Hospitalization Among Immunocompetent Adults Aged ≥65 Years

Over time, the monovalent COVID-19 mRNA vaccine-induced immunity deteriorates. All eligible individuals should receive a bivalent COVID-19 mRNA booster dosage, however nothing is known about how successful it is at preventing COVID-19 hospitalisation. A bivalent booster dose offered 73% more protection against COVID-19 hospitalisation among immunocompetent persons hospitalised in the multistate IVY Network than a previous monovalent mRNA vaccine alone did.
