Do Indian women receive adequate information about contraception?

07 Dec 2021
Family Planning

by Md Juel Rana and Anrudh K. Jain 60 MIN READ

High discontinuation rates of reversible contraceptive methods contribute substantially to India’s high rates of unmet need and have become an important area for the Indian Family Planning Program. Providing adequate information on side effects, management of side effects and contraceptive options can improve voluntary contraceptive use and continuation. This study analyzed the recent changes and patterns of information received about contraceptive methods by contraceptive users in India – an important indicator of the quality of care in family planning services. Data were taken from the third and fourth rounds of National Family and Health Surveys (NFHS) conducted in India during 2005–06 and 2015–16.
