As the public health emergency of COVID-19 spread across the world, there was growing interest in how the international community could support country level responses to the pandemic. This article analyzes information from IEG evaluations of the World Bank Group’s response to various public health crises. It identifies three lesson areas that shed light on what works and where attention is needed to deliver both an immediate and a long-term response to the current crisis. These three areas include launching a rapid response, controlling the spread and implementing a sustainable long term response. These lessons could be useful for policymakers to make informed decisions for both short term and long term response programs. Click here to read the article.
