As the COVID-19 cases surged worldwide threatening to overwhelm life-saving health services, the survival of mothers and children remained at great risk. This article presents evidence on the potential rise in maternal and child mortality in low-income and middle-income countries, due to disruption of essential health services resulting from COVID-19. As a global community, overcoming the negative impact of the pandemic will require focus on six key areas of action and investment. It is a useful article for policy makers.
