Government of India's commitment to achieving the SDG 2030 on maternal and child mortality rests largely on reducing undernutrition. In this context, based on identified information gaps, the CNNS collected nationally representative data on the nutritional status of pre-schoolers, school-age children and adolescents . The aim was to estimate the prevalence of malnutrition amongst children and adolescents and to identify key factors associated with the nutrition transition in India by using robust tools and gold standard methods to reorient national programme and policy. The CNNS was designed to provide nationally representative data on anthropometry, micronutrient deficiencies and risk factors for noncommunicable diseases to help inform programmes and policies tackling the most critical nutritional challenges in the country.
