Health System Strengthening Emerging Pandemics

by WHO and Lok Swasthya Sewa Trust

In India, the COVID virus infected around 1.8 million people leading to nearly 39 thousand deaths as reported on 4 August 2020. COVID-19 spread across the country and affected everyone, particularly the informal workers, whose lives have been the most seriously affected. The lives of informal workers on a normal basis are characterized by the insecurity of work and income, insufficient food and nutrition security, and compromised access to basic health services.

This document is a summary of a short study of the impact of COVID- 19 on workers from the informal sector. This report talks about their awareness of this novel disease, their perception of the accessibility of health services during the pandemic, the impact of potential loss of livelihood, and other similar unknowns that had the potential to affect their physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing.
