Most countries have 'mixed health systems' where the public and private sectors provide health services, but many countries lack policies, frameworks, and guidelines for private health sector engagement. This report by the World Health Organization provides an overview of private sector roles in terms of providing goods and services for achieving Universal Health Coverage and Primary Healthcare. It describes ways to harness the efforts of all health services, both public and private, to achieve universal health coverage, including efforts focused on primary health care. This report can help guide policies and program design for public-private partnerships in achieving national healthcare goals.
